Default Inside cab rust removal advice

Is using a 40 grit flap disk to abrasive on the interior metal. There is a good amount of rust under the roof side, and theres a top layer of paint on the floor pans. I tried it on a small section and it took no time to take it down to bare metal. The car is in the garage, so how long do I have to treat it afterwards if I go down to metal. This will probably take more than one day to do.

if its in the garage, it wont rust for a few days maybe even weeks if its bare metal. my car has been mostly bare metal for months and its not rusting at all. we have good weather though in norcal.

Blast it with media other than sand, amberblast is good. Try a 36 grit on an angle grinder.

You can treat is with phosphoric acid which will kill any residual rust and leave a coating of phosphate which is a rust inhibitor and a good base for paint. It etches the metal. Otherwise, if not exposed to water or excessive humidity, should not flash for a while. However, I like to go with the phosphoric acid just to prevent any flash rust, or the formation of lught rust that you may not notice before painting.

You can get phosphoric acid at home depot.

Well I tried taking it off with the flap disk and it may have been to agressive. I am going to get a 100 or 120 grit if they have it and give that a try. I will also get the phosphoric acid and then paint with an eastwood product.

Allright now I bought an attachment for my grinder, its the twisted wires wheel brush. Not too agressive and worked great. Now for the patience to kick in to get it done. I will probably take it down and treat it with the phosphoric acid like coda618 mentioned, paint with eastwood paint and then put a sound dampening material down.

Sounds like your right on track, I just, well my dad just put some roll on truck bed liner on the floor of a 66 we are working on, looks great and should dampen road noise. We're gonna put another coat on it and it will be good to go. Good luck!

Good luck, should come out real nice. By the way, I use the wire brushes all the time. I have found they are the most efficient in removing the rust w/o tearing up the metal.
