Default 347 Stroker build

Hey guys I know this post has been beaten to death but I would like some info that is in one spot for my build. I have a 67 coupe with a roller 302. I am building a 347 stroker but I don't want to waste time and money getting this thing right. Not looking for 500 horses just some fun. The car will not be on the track just driven cross country. Any advice will be much appreciated.

I've been considering a 347 build also. One of the concerns brought up by machine shops concerns the piston's oil ring. The longer connecting rod and shorter piston, puts the oil ring across the piston pin. Most of the builders I've spoke with suggest a 331 for it's reliability, plus it supposedly eliminates this issue and places the oil ring higher on the piston, above the pin. Something to chew on. . . . Can any of you builders validate this?

As most of you know I work for T and L. Let me just say we have built hundreds of 347's with no problems with rings. Years ago when 347's first started being built they did have problems but with advances in pistons designs improvments have been made.

If it were me, I would do a 331 because of the difference in rod angle. The oil ring is not the only problem with the 347. The rod angle is so steep with the short deck block that the small Ford piston skirt problem is exacerbated.

If you DO go ahead with a 347, don't even dream of doing it without a balanced rotating assembly and a very good aftermarket harmonic balancer.

My $0.02,

Mustanglover66,

I've already decided if I ever change out my modified 302 I'll be dealing with your company not just from the prices and numbers your engines can put up but b/c you're relatively close.

But I'd have to go with at least a 351W (since that's what I thought I was getting the first time.)

Thanks for the info guys I do appreciate it. What is the best block to use when building a stroker. I have a 91 5.0 that I am currently running but I also have a block from the mid-80's. If there is not a major differnce I would like to stick with the 91.

either one of those blocks would be good there really isn't any difference between them.
