Default Engine Time - 351W Build - Need Help

Hey everyone, holidays are around the corner and my birthday is in exactly one month, I need to know what to get for my engine build. And I have no idea what I am doing around cam specs and heads.

I'm building the 351w for my 65 coupe, I would like to see 350hp(optimistic) 300hp will do. This will be for street use, and I want durability not insane parts. I want suggestions of parts that work well together. Also my budget is not the biggest, keep this in mind. Thanks.

I will be having a local shop rebuild the engine for me, do all the fun stuff that I Don't want to touch.

Parts:
  • Heads: I have been looking at the Vic Jr. and Performer. I want something pre-assembled, so no other things to buy(except rockers)
  • Rockers: Something roller tipped (good brands?)
  • Cam: Something on the edge of too much for street.
  • Intake: Again, thinking the Performer, just need something to fit the 65 hood.
  • Carb: 650 would be about right, yes?
  • Dizzy: Absolutely no idea, would like electronic though.
  • Fasteners: I've heard ARP is the way to go. What bolts exactly would I be buying?
  • Push rods: Heard something about hardend? What about this stuff?
Should I use the pistons that come with rebuild kits? Or buy the smaller rebuild kits and the pistons separately?

Lots of ???'s Thanks so much for you replies.

if you are going to buy a rebuild kit just get the one with pistons it will be easier and they have plenty of choices from cast, hyperecteutic and forged and you know then that everything will work. if you are having the machine shop do it, before you order anything yourself ask them what they recommend or i mean like what size was the engine bored out to, was the cam turned or just polished or just let them size the kit for you. i would put afr 205 if i had the money because they would be about perfect if you want that aggressive cam. if you drop the aggressive cam for just a bit milder, i would say afr 185. edelbrock are quality but if you have the money go for afr. 650 for more stock but if you step it up a little maybe a 750 if its healthy. arp bolts deff, go for like spirolocks for your pistons and the other fasteners they make for the kits will be more self explanatory. intake maybe the weiand stealth intake, if i remember correctly it is a low profile dual plane, though under a stock 65 hood line you probably won't be able to squeeze a carb spacer which is always nice, maybe like a phenolic, or a wilson tapered design. distributor maybe go with a whole pertronix set up, dizzy, and everything

Thanks for the reply. From what I have been hearing on hear, the afr's have no durability. Plus they are expensive. Both the heads I listed you can pick up for $700 or less assembled, everything but rockers.

I will let the shop buy the rebuild kit, that way they get all the right parts and sizes. I want to go with forged though on the pistons right?

Why not just buy a top end kit from edlebrock with the cam, heads, intake all included? plus it would be matched.. Get the Performer RPM set..

Nvm found it. Seems very expensive. $1800?. I could buy the heads for ~$700, ~$200 for cam, ~$200 intake, and few other things and still come out on top.

Opinions?

I do like the "400 HP, 412 ft. lbs" claim, this excites me.
