Ok so I called up to shop today.

I asked about cleaning, honing/or machining, decking, magnaflux, new seals He said he could rebuild the 351w, with forged pistons, new timing chain(i think he said??), all new seals, and if I bring in the cam/intake/heads for $1600-1700.

He said the Forged pistons would be $400-500. Really?

Good pricing? I dont have much choice around here

I had my 4.6 DOHC bored .020 with deck plate, line honed mains, decked and balanced for $1000 (but this was at 'the' local performance engine shop - the only guys with a deck plate for that motor). I put it together myself (and bought all the pistons, rods, bearings, gaskets, seals, etc.). What he quoted you with new forged pistons sounds pretty good to me.

Lol, ya pistons, sorry about that.

Good, so it sounds like a good deal to me. Waiting to see if i can find this shade tree guy around here, that my mechanic says he only lets him touch his engines.

Thats not a bad price for forged components. My long block build was $1200 and I went with hyper. pistons. But he did the rest everything but installing the intake/carb, valve covers, oil pump, and pan.. I did all of that, and painted it to my taste before dropping it in.

I was think of not painting some of the surfaces maybe block or heads. Would these get nasty/rust or something over time?
