Need 351 setup advice
Gentlemen:
I just brought home a 351W to go in a 67 shelby clone project I am beginning this winter.
It has a Eddlebrock Jr. 302 single plane manifold, rocker/ roller, a big cam, forged pistons.
I need a fuel pump, distributor, coil, carb. I am looking for recomendations on carb size, carb brand, and the kind of voltage I need on the coil.
The motor was built for drag racing, but I will probably just drive it 10-30 times per year up to the movies with my wife, so driveability is not a huge issue. I want ground shaking power that instills fear in the hearts of the weak at stoplights.
Also, if any of you have any advice about putting a 351 in a 67, please pass that on. I have a rollcage, and will weld on some subframe connectors as soon as it gets back from the paint shop.

I'll tell you what. Having just done this. I would probably take off the whole damn front end lol. I'm not really sure why I had so much difficulties getting it tucked in there, but getting the engine mounts on was a PITA! But honestly, it's not too bad, not much different than any other classic.
Also, take a look at your setup and see if you can't put the headers on the engine outside of the car. That would have made it easier. you'll have to be careful of the shock towers though, it will get tight, and I had some issues with one of the bolt coming out the side of the shock tower, had to grind it down some. And that was with Hooker Super Comp LT's.

Given your stated intentions, I would avoid an Edelbrock carb and go with a Holley 650DP (0-4777). It has a manual choke and if you really want an electric choke you can add one, but I prefer the manual. The best set up if you have the boss on the front cover and an eccentric installed on the cam is a mechanical fuel pump. An Edelbrock or Holley is fine and they are both compatible with the carb and do not require a regulator. Do install a filter between the pump and carb.
Remove the hood and install the engine/trannyas a unit. An engine leveler will make this job significantly simpler. I have installed several by myself, including a 460 in my 1970 Mustang. One other point. Watch the placement of jackstands if the car is suspended or your wheels if on the ground. The legs of the engine hoist have an annoying tendancy to always want to be right where the jackstands or wheels are! Good luck!
