pcv valve
I have a 65 coupe with a 302. I fired it up over the weekend and noticed that the pcv valve has two hoses going to it. One hose is a large hose and the other one is small... the small one wasnt pluged up nor was it going to anything and it was creating a vaccum leak. Where is the small hose suposed to go? I have the bigger hose going to my carb... I plugged the small hose and it slowed my idle down... Is it suposed to be plugged off???
Well its late and I had some whiskey so i shouldn't respond here, but someone will set me straight.
Clearly your motor is probably 70's or later.
The small vacuum line was some sort of emissions deal the went to a water temp controlled valve and then to the carb. It defiantly should be blocked for now. Your motor will run better and get better mileage without that vacuum leak.
The big hose should go to manifold vacuum, most likely the carb spacer.
Easiest thing to do is get a PCV valve for a 65 and forget about the small hose. The one you have is probably fine anyway.
Yes, you do want the PCV valve, you don't need to worry about emissions on a 65 in most states.
Going to sleep.
