shelby c4 servo kit
I was looking through the npd catalog getting a few odds and ends for my mustang. I saw a c4 shelby servo conversion kit. What does that do for the tranny? Also are there any shift kits for a 1966 c4?
B&M makes a shift kit for the 66 C4 B&M #50227 . Works great, have one in mine. The servo has a different piston size and reacts faster when shifting and has higher holding power. The one I have is billet aluminum. Both are worth it if your upgrading your tranny. And both can be done without removing the trans from the car BTW.
I bought the B&M kit from Summit. The clutch kit, bands and rebuild kit were from COAN Transmissions in Indiana. Very helpful and knowledgeable folks. The kit is also VERY complete.

b&m makes an alright kit, but there are other companies who's kits are supposed to be better. that being said i had a b&m stage II at one point in an otherwise stock C4 and i liked it........ until it blew up LOL
also, im pretty sure the aftermarket billet servos are even better than the "shelby" ones. performance automatic is the company i would go with. heres thier website http://www.performanceautomatic.com/parts_c4.htm for the servo and http://www.performanceautomatic.com/performkits.htm for the valve body kit.
looking back i really should have used their 6 pinion planetary unit too, seeing as how i blew out my stock one when the trans blew - but money limited me. *crosses fingers*

The C4 servo kits come in different servo types. Each one has a selected amount of pressure, rated by letter. If I'm correct, the servo applies pressure against the 2-3 gear clutch drum band. The higher the pressure, the tighter it grabs, reducing slip. It mounts on the drivers side of the tranny, just behind the selector lever. Any of the tranny builders carry them, Transgo, B&M, etc. If you upgrade your servo, consider upgrading the interal band, because a strong servo will actually bend the stock band. A hardened or rigid band is recommended.
i have a performence automatic servo on my 65 and its great! very quick shifts if youre going to with a after market one go with this one. with this servo and b&m 'trans pack' not shift kit you will 'chirp' the tire when shifting from 1st to2nd.
