Got me a '65!!
Some of you may remember my post a while back that involved me getting an i6 auto and then giving it to my sister with hopes of finding a better one. Well I did. I found an ad in the paper for a '65 with a 302 for $3,500 and thought I'd check it out. So I pulled up to the guy's house in my sis's stang and found nearly the perfect car for me. Under the hood lies a boss 302 from a '69 Mustang, Edelbrock intake and valve covers, a huge 4-barrel Holley, full performance Mallory ignition, a fancy Griffin radiator, a pair of good headers with a decent cat-back, and a 3-speed manual with a SOLID Hurst shifter. This guy also converted the front brakes to disk. So I then took a look around and found a few trouble spots where someone tried to use bondo, but there were no dents or signs of warpage in the frame. I then told him that I had $2,500 cash and he accepted right then and there! Unfortunately, the dstributor went bad the previous week so I had to get it towed, but as of today thats fixed, theres a fresh oil pump/filter, new pan and vavle cover gaskets, and fresh platinum spark plugs. I should get the keys for her tomorrow so I can fire 'er up! So thats my stang's life story, thanks for the input earlier I'm glad I kept looking.

If you're new to the world of Mustangs, you may not realize that the "Boss" designation is much more than just a name. It's a very unique animal. Boss 302s are few and far between; read: very expensive! If it is a genuine Boss engine, you can sell it to some concourse folk for enough to restore your entire car! You may want to do some research to learn the differences...

I have my doubts of it being a genuine Boss 302 engine. More than likely just a run-of-the-mill 302.

Mine's a 302, and I think it's pretty "boss" [sm=smiley20.gif]
Hey Dan, how can I determine if I've got a boss? I figured it was because the harmonic balancer seems larger than most others. I guess I'll be able to tell when I get my keys eh?
I'll definately get pictures of this one, but it's not pretty right now. Looks nice under the hood, but the paint, well lets say its a two tone with varying shades of red and gray.

A couple of easy checks is to see if it has screw in freeze plugs on the side, and if it has pent roof valve covers. That motor is a 351W block with a 351 Cleveland head with 4 bolt main caps. The heads are very wide with a very wide intake manifold.
