door lock help
a while back i went to unlock my door and the lock pull came off, leaving the door permanently locked since the key has never worked to unock it either. I know (or at least think) its screw on, an I've tried to put it back in but I can see to find what it's supposed to screw onto. I think maybe the whole lock mechanisim fell down? I really have no idea what I'm talking about... but I know fixing this must be really simple and not worth taking to a shop. I took off the inside door panel, and tried to reach in to feel what I'm looking for, but all i got was goop on my hands and a door panel that doesn't fit in becuase three of the clips broke. Help?
I am not positive about your 68, but if it is like most, there will be an arm that hooks up to it, and a retaining nut to hold it in place. Raise your window up all the way so you can get to it. Unscrew the retaining nut, push the mechanism through, then unhook the arm.

You can probably get all the clips, new locks for the doors and trunk, and all the necessary hardware for less than $40 through any resto shop. All it will cost you is a little dough and an afternoon!
maybe you don't understand.... i don't need parts, i need to somehow get a physical hold on the part of the lock that moves up and down.... you know... that part that you pull up from the inside to unlock your door? I'm assuming theres a rod that goes down into the door further.... but just by feeling around I couldnt feel it. bah, never mind I'll just take it in.
Now, don't give up on us dear. We didn't understand what you were asking. You have obviously lost your **** that attached to a threaded rod down inside the door. Get another **** from one of your other cars if you have another old car, and find the rod inside your door and attach it. Pull up the rod, then take your **** back to your other car, and order a new **** for yours. You could also use a coat hanger to pull that rod back up so you can attach a new ****. Or, better still, since you have the cover off, raise your window so you can get at the rod, then guide it back through the hole with both hands. Get another **** and you in like Flynn. You don't want to pay 50 bux for a simple fix such as this. You also said the key never worked to unlock it, which led us to believe the mechanism was shot, so we were trying to show you how to replace your key mechanism.
