Does anyone know where to find the engine block number, its a 1971 Mach1 429CJ, I want to verify that it is the original block.

Hey, welcome to the classic section on the MF. So, you have a CJ huh? Hellava nice engine. I don't know where your block code is on your car, but it is behind the starter on my old 65 289. There will be some early 70's model knowledgable folks who will chime in with correct information for you in a bit. So, just keep your pants on and order another round.

Yeah, just take your starter out, and it will be stamped on the block. Haven't we been through this discussion before?

On a 428cj block, or any FE block I believe, there's a casting date on the front driver's side directly below the oil filter adapter. This only tells when the block was made, so if's within a few months or so earlier than the car's build date that's about as close as one can get to matching #s. If you're very lucky the vin number may be stamped in the back of the block which can only be seen with the transmission removed. I realize the 429 is a totally different block, but it might be worth a peek.
