Default Choke Stove Plug Removal

Appreciate any input on this one - I am afraid to disconnect the exhaust manifold to get at the circular fitting at the bottom of the choke stove it to clean it out and replace the filter - the reason for this, is that this connection has not been touched in 42 years! - I am very concerned that I will not be able to reconnect everything in a tight and sealed fashion - is there anyway to remove the circular fitting without removing the manifold? - how is this attached? - is it a plug with a set screw?- or just a plug? - perhaps a heated type of fitting that was not meant to be removed? - I am hoping that if I can get this off I will be able to replace the filter, clean the opening, and remove the squashed pieces of the broken stove pipe that are stuck in there - all this, to get some good hot air flow to the carb - I noticed upon start up today that it was taking awhile for the stove tube to heat up - I will also replace the old stove tube to ensure no leaks - if I can't get the plug off would drilling be an option? - maybe from the top?

Thanks,

Carl
