Can anyone read this?
Those are pop rivets right?
If so, this combined with the already mentioned corrosion, (that just does not look as if it "formed around" the tag), I find the whole thing suspect. + I just have a hard time imagining that a Shelby would have come with such a **** poor VIN tag.... could be wrong, but looking at the tag I have to think "Made in China".....

No, If the tag is genuine, 8T03J145431-01404 - it's a J-code car, which means 302-4V, so it would be a GT350 Convertible.
The rivots look like hardware store type rivots, to me, but I don't know what Shelby used back in the day.

I didn't know what engines went with what model, only reason I put all 3 down.
I think this is correct:
J Code is 302-4V.................GT350
S Code is 428-4V.................GT500
R Code is 428-4V Ram Air......GT500KR

It seems a little suspicious to me, like said before that corrosion and rivets just don't seem right. Or it might be a possibility that they popped off the tag and then did a crappy paint job with no prep to take care of the corrosion and repaint a Shelby a different color, but that is a bit of a reach.
