Default AOD conversion question

After searching for some time I bought an all new built 351c with the AOD bolted on already. From what I have searched I need the AOD yolk, Shifter linkage, throttle cable, and filler tube.

How did you guys that did the swap handle the electronics (back up lights, neutral switch)

What about the speedometer?

Anything else I am missing?

Thanks

I have a 65 w/ no back up lights. I bought a B&M shifter which has a built in reverse lock out. I connected the neutral safety wires together to bybass them. They do make conversions though i have seen them on ebay for about $100 bucks. waay overpriced. Speedo should be the same. I have not installed my speedo because I have 4.11s anyway and need to get a new gear for the speedo. The Tv cable adjustment is the most crucial. we can walk you through it. Driveshaft may need to be changed

Thanks for the info, I was going to look at a shop in Vegas to do the install as I never did an engine installation and was most worried about the throttle cable and initial turn on. It doesnt seem too difficult (at least getting the engine & tranny in) after that is when I know I dont know where to go.

I don't think the OP is using an AODE, just the AOD.

I think you can get the original 3-speed shifter and its linkage to work; I swapped a TBI 5.0/AOD into a '66 and managed to make that one work.

The TV cable adjustment is quite important, but not terribly difficult. I ended up having to buy a TV as aftermarket (I think through some outfit in Michigan), and it did come with some instructions. Maybe I still have them. Anyway, you'll probably end up tweaking it a little to get the best achievable shift timing and feel (if normal part-throttle upshifts are too harsh you adjust it one way, if they're too slow or the engine races during the upshift it goes the other way).

I don't remember about any driveshaft mods, though (it's been a dozen years or more and I'm starting to forget some of the details).

AODs have the neutral safety switch on the side, I dont recall if the reverse lights are on the same switch but it has 4 terminals, mounted just above the shift levers. Looks like a sending unit with 4 terminals.

rev lights and nuetral switch are on the same 4 pin switch, the cheapest route is find a pick a part and get the plug off an AOD car, mine cost 5 bucks and wire it in to your stock plugs.

I looked everywhere here and couldn't find one.
I ended up buying a connector from ron morris performance and extending the wires for my aplication.

Well I ordered a lot of additional items that were needed but with two exceptions, I was talking to the reps at PATC about the speedometer setup and they wanted to know the 'teeth' for the speedometer shaft on the tranny which I didnt know as I thought it would be standard, they told me to take the tail housing off to count them. Can I find this out without taking the tail section off?

The other item I did not order yet was linkage for the shifter, who did you go with?

All, thanks for the help so far.

My AOD was from my 89 Mustang, so I already had the speedo gear, (white for 4:10 gears). As for the shifter, I use an aftermarket B&M quick silver.
