The stock fan on my car takes up almost that entire circumfrance. I have about 1/16 to 1/8 clearance all the way around.

the areas the fan will hit are the top and the bottom. If you notice, the top and bottom of the shroud dip back in towards the center of the shroud and match up to the core of the radiator... these two areas are where it strikes. When I replaced my 2 row with a 3 row, my fan was pressed solid against the top and bottom of the inside of the fan shroud.

Well, that sounds strange. You have to have at least half of your fan blade inside the shroud. If none of the fan is inside the shroud, you may as well not have a shroud. I'm wondering if you could get a fan with shorter blades for it....Maybe even consider an electric fan......

Hey Glen have you ever tryed Be-Cool & water in your cooling system. I find this works great for sit in traffic during cruise events. I used this before going to alu. radiator & alu. trans cooler.

Dude... 3/4 of my fan was in the shroud before the replacement. After the upgrade to the 3 row, the radiator now being 1/3" thicker, the fan blades struck the INSIDE of the shroud because the shroud is physically closer by 1/3" to the fan.

I'm breaking out the crayons...

Does that help?

No I haven't used Be-cool. All I have used was distilled water and anti-freeze. Maybe I will give that a try this summer. Thanks for the tip.

Oh boy... We are armed to the teeth with digital cameras... I'm going to update a site nightly from the road (I'll post links somewhere here). Only stills at first, then digital video when I get a break. Power tour... 3days to go! Wooo Hooo!

I said it wasn't rocket science. In your case, you should have a shorter spacer by an amount to keep your fan from hitting the shroud. I didn't have to do that on my 65, but yours is different I see. Have fun on the tour. I envy you.

What??? Your wife doesn't like riding in a cool car with a bunch of other cool cars? Hmmmm. My old lady simply loves going to shows and such. She thinks my 03 Mach is ugly, but grins from ear to ear when she drives it. But, she is most grinning when she drives Old Yeller. We are old folks, ya know.
