Default Electrical problems/questions

Ok, so I admit electrical problems are not my forte. But here is my problem. My alternator dummy light keeps coming on and now my blinkers wont work. I thought it was the alternator, which was bad, but the problem still persists. Also, the voltage gauge is up and down and my tach jumps like crazy and sometimes just doesn't work at all. I replaced the voltage regulator as well and it didn't help.

I am stumped. Any advice?

Did you replace the voltage regulator for the alternator, or the instrument panel voltage unit? Unfortunately it could just be a short or bare wire somewhere on the wiring harness.

Yes I replaced the external voltage regulator because the alternator does not have an internal one. Everything has been working fine for the past year until the alternator went out. Now it is just acting wacky. I didn't see any frayed wires either.

If you can get your hands on a volt meter you could check the battery voltage while your gauge is acting up to verify if you have a charging system problem or a problem with the instruments. Are the turn signals not working or just the instrument indicator lamps?
