Default How do I, kick panels?

OK, so the new carpet made my old kick panels and scuff plates look even worse then they did when I had the old faded carpet.

So, I purchased new ones....figured what the hell....the parts are about $40 or so.

The problem I am having is the kick panels come minus the screw holes. How do I line things up so that I know where to drill some holes?

Obviously, if I put the panels in place then I cannot mark or drill from the backside.

Any suggestions?

Use the old kick panels as a template?

Put a little grease on the screw holes and then press the kick panel into place. When you pull it off, the grease on the back of the kick panel should mark the places to drill. Be careful not to slide the panel around during the process.

That just might work Honeygold....I am having trouble getting this to line up in general. It might be hard however to get the panel lined up without sliding it around some but I will give it a shot next time I get a chance.

For some reason it appears that the bottom part of the kick panels should be under the scuff plates but then they "don't work" exactly right. It is like the kick panels are too high or too think or something and then the scuff plates won't line up with their holes. I was working on it Friday night and it was pretty much ticking me off. Guess I'll get it figured out sooner or later.

glad I am not the only one moon.

I was literally considering shaving down the end part of the kick panels that go under the sills because it seems like they are just too thick for the sill to ever sit low enough. I already had the kick panel shoved back as far as it will go.

Yes, it does go under there. I had to take off the scuff plates to get the kick panels out.

Cut the head off a screw and grind that end to a point. Twist it into the hole with a pair of vice grips. Hold the panel in place exactly where you want it and give it a slap with your hand to mark the spot. Fitting it under the sill plate involve a combination of shaving down the piece that fits under the plate and reshaping the plate. you can get a perfect fit.

I hadn't thought of that fake....thanks for the idea.

I had however reached the conclusion that I was going to need to shave the kick panel some for it to fit. Without giving it a haircut the screw holes on the scuff plate were off by a good 1/4 inch give or take on that end.

How about just painting the old ones?
