Default Clutch Return Spring

If someone has a 3 speed manual could you please take a picture of under your dash by your clutch so I can see how your clutch return spring is hooked up? Mine fell off shortly after buying it and I would like to put it back in, my Hanes is not much help, thanks.

It's not actually a true return spring, it's an over-center spring. It functions as a return spring for the first inch or so, then acts as an assist spring until the bottom of the pedal travel.

I can't tear my dash apart atm, but one end of the spring connects to the upper end of the clutch pedal (obviously), while, iirc, the other connection should be a bracket of some sort near the firewall. It should be an obvious hook or hole.

Keep in mind, if you have a modern diaphragm style clutch, you should leave the spring out.

I don't, I have the original set up.

I see where it hooks up on the clutch pedal but I can't see where I hooks up to the firewall. I almost though it hooked up to a bracket under the steering wheel instead of the firewall.

If nobody gets a pic up by tomorrow, I'll go dig up my FSM and see if there's a blow-up diagram in there. I think there is.

Oh, and go get yourself a FSM, and ditch that Hayne's :P

Thanks, and getting the FSM is on my list of things I need to do now. But my parents needed something to get me for xmas so I suggested that. So hopefully when I fly back home it will be there.

The bracket beside the steering column is where it hooks. It doesn't hook to the firewall. Its like starfury said its an over center spring it doesn't work like you would think it should. I have removed many of them. People seem to llike the feel of the clutch with out it.

I'd still have mine installed if I had a long-style clutch. Even with the spring, my OE clutch was a bear. Killed my knee in traffic. Takes a lot of effort to compress all those coil springs.

So the clutch is fine without the spring? It won't really have any effect other than make it harder to press in the clutch?

Cool. Then I guess I won't worry about it too much. I will just worry about adjusting the clutch linkage.
