Default Side Mirror Placement

I just ordered new side mirrors for my 67 and I could not find any placement template they may of sent with it. Could someone please post a close up picture and measurement where I need to drill to put the mirrors on. The PO also after he painted it put a 66 style mirror so it doesn't have the correct hole. Also by chance if someone also knows what size drill bit to use please let me know, thanks.

Good luck on that, I just eye-balled it and used my little triangle mirror as a reference point from the driver's side mirror. As for the drill bit, just get one that is big enough for the screw but small enough for the long bolt thing that goes underneath. Make sure you have someone else hold it in place while you sit in the driver seat so that you can make primary adjustments. Once installed you should still be able to move the mirror part of the mirror set up a little.

It's a pain, taking off the vinyl door siding and reaching up there to screw it together. Also if you bought them from Year One, make sure that the mirror is tight. I put mine on and a few weeks later it loosened up from the inside and caused the mirror to flap down. I made the adjustment a few times and it continues to loosen up and **** me off. I used glue and a rubber washer but the design of the mirror provides that when the car vibrates it loosens up. I will change them both out once I get back from Iraq.

i sort of eyeballed mine when i put them on, i used the left factory mirror for reference but ive been pretty dissapointed because no matter how a adjust it my side mirrors are totally useless.

That totally useless part is not too reassuring. Did you get the convex mirror for the passenger side? That is what I did. Also it came with these black plastic trim pieces that appear to go underneath the mirror when put on, am I right? I had just got off work when I opened the boxes so I was dead tired and haven't had a chance to check them again yet.

That would work if it wasn't for the PO installing a 66 mirror. The 66 mirror has a smaller base than the 67 mirror so the holes are in a different position. If someone could just take a tape measure on their 67/68 an measure from the beginning of the door to the screw holes or screws that would work.

Don't have too much fun over there, I can't say that I terribly miss that place. Which base are you going to?

isnt the 67-68 that ugly square mirror? id put 65-66 on both sides. you pretty much want it back enough that the vent windows open unobstructed.

Yup, the rectangle mirrors but they seem far more useful than that pointless round one I have now.
