Default rebuilding rear end

for my 8", i want to put 3.50 or 3.73's in it.

what all do i need to do the complete build? ring and pinion and what else? do i need bearings and seals or anything?

can someone give me a list of the parts i would need?

i plan on going with wilwoods 4 piston dsik parking brake kit. so do i need new axles?

unless it needs a complete rebuild, im sure you'll be fine with just ring and pinion. i havent worked on for rear ends :/ but you will most likely need a new pinion bearing. you shouldnt need new axles since your not putting down 400+ hp
what trans are you running?

yeah, you shouldnt need new axles. i would go with 350's against a 373 unless your going to race it since you dont have OD. also, if you plan on going posi make sure it fits the splines you have on the axles (should be 28)

haha, i dont blame you. do you plan on doing it yourself or having a shop install the ring and pinion? if you do it yourself, make sure you get a lash(correct word?) and whatnot right so it lasts.

Tools:
Dial indicator with magnetic base to set backlash.
0-60 INCH pound torque wrench to set the pinion preload.

Machine shop to press old bearing off pinion and put on new pinion. Unless you have a bearing press.

Crush sleeve and shim kit, new bearings if needed.

Way to bolt down the pumpkin while you put 200 foot pounds torque on the pinion nut to set the pinion bearing preload.

Lots of patience if you have not done it before, because you will have to check and recheck the settings to make sure it is right.
You have only 1 shot on the pinion preload, if you go to far you will have to dissassemble and install a new crush sleeve.

I would guess it wouldn't cost more than $150.00 to have it done.

What Limited Slip are you going with? I was looking at upgrading ours but think I might just order a new Currie 9", TrueTrac, Explorer disks and either 3.25 or 3.50 gears. I still cant make up my mind between the gears though likely go with the 3.25s for better fuel mileage.
We'll be putting down 400+ I hope so figure I'll spend the extra and be done with it. Last thing I want is the wife calling me saying she tore the 8" rearend apart showing off at a light.

i have very little clue how rearends or LSD's work. i work at a engine machine shop and my boss's husband has a rearend shop across the street and im gonna have him help me build it but i just dont want to look like a complete moron when i start. he has all the tools needed.
