make sure the floors are ok, the cowl (pour some water down and see if any comes out in the floorboards) the frame rails especially. and whatnot, luckily these cars are simple to work on. if you can post any pics that;d be great. 1500 seems like a good price
The floors are never OK on old cars, lol.
They are the first thing to go bad. The inner cowl on 65/68 are a weak point as well.
I did a bunch of those back when only the patch pieces were available... PITA.
To the OP, if it's over your head, then it'll cost a bundle to have a pro restore it.
I just bought a 4 speed 65 GT coupe a couple weeks ago for $2150. It's got the original window sticker, all the paperwork going back to new, and almost no rust. I would say no on a $1500 6, because for a couple hundred bucks more and some searching you can get a much better car.
It all depends on how much time and money you want to invest in it. I would talk him down some, the motor and trans, assuming they are in good condition are worth close to 1,000.
