+1 gunjam
Core was probably bad. If you do not replace anything... Be careful when you hook it up and turn it on, you may get a lot of water on the floor.

Right but the issue is getting the hoses on the heater core they attach well below the holes that are cut in the firewall. It takes far more effort to attach those 2 hoses with everything installed than it does to pull the box and install them with the box free of the firewall....Once your this far why not just pull it out of the car and do it right?

Excellent write up and real world experience Gun Jam! I wouldn't waiver from his explanation and steps. It will get you heat and save you a ton of aggrevation.

Redid my heater box just like Gun Jam wrote & it went fine. My heater puts out more heat (and gets warm lots quicker) than my Jeep Cherokee.
The controls operation (I think):
left **** is down for heat on (directs air through the heater core instaed of around it)
middle **** is temp control, down is warmer, up is cooler
right **** is defrost, up for heat & down for defrost (I may be backwards on this one)
top **** is fan control, left is off

Nice explanation, Art! I can never remember what the ***** are for and just start moving them until the desired hotter or cooler air comes out... At least I narrow the fiddling to two *****, since I can hear the defrost re-director engaging with one of them.

Update:

I took everything out Sunday. Picked up the new core from NPD this afternoon, ran new hoses and hooked everything up this evening and the heat finally works!

My only issue is is that when I put it back in one of the wires must have slipped that you clamp down because the heat control **** will go down all the way but the far right flap wont close completely and it is a tight fit trying to get a screw driver up there to loosen and retighten the clamp that holds the wire but the heat is still good enough for me.

Thanks everybody!
