Default 66 heater controls

Do I need to have my heat and temp **** up on or down to put heat out? I am asking because I cant seem to get heat to come out so I wouldnt know which way they would need to be positioned. Not sure if the heat just sucks or doesnt work Might invest in a heater that can be plugged into the lighter.

down for heat.

They should work really well and wont put a load on your alternator.
is the water hooked up to it?

got the same issue,,i thinks it's one of the fine features of the first stangs,, i gotta new heater core, new hoses, new radiator ,,etc,,,etc, etc,,problem is the single speed fan,,,gonne get to that one soon,,, not a hot water flow issue on mine by any means the slowness of the fan leaves alot to be desired ,,especially if you live in the northern climates these days

How does one tell if water is hooked up? Are you simply talking about the hoses going into the wirewall?

If you dont have water hooked up to the heater core they should have cut/redirected the hoses somewhere in the engine compartment. I had a problem with mine when I first got it and redid the heater box last year with new hoses and core. Once I got the box apart, found that the problem was a HUGE build up of leave and crap which was blocking the air flow through the heater core. With that removed and the new core in we have to turn down the heater after a few minutes or it will burn you out.

Gun Jam: I just turned it on the other day and never really paid much attention to the heater except that I knew the 3 speed fan was working. I looked under the hood last night and noticed the 2 hoses were cut. What would I need to do inorder to hook it back up and get water.

And how difficult is it replace heater parts under the dash? Not like the venting or anything, but the heater core, box, etc. ?

Okay bud

Since your hoses are cut and looped at the intake manifold it means your heater core is bad. People don't cut heater lines for fun. If you look next to the thermostat housing on top of the intake manafold in front of the carb you should see a line that goes from the intake to the water pump (this is the loop there should be 2 lines one on each fitting that run to the heater).

Remove the 4 bolts from the fire wall that hold the heater motor on.

Remove the air ducts from the plenum box. (right behind the console)

Remove the mount bracket (far right side hooks to bottom of cowl)

Remove three controll cables (slide them off)

Pull the whole deal out

Woah you just totally broke your cardboard plenum box for the desfroster vents wow it actually turned to dust.

Pop the clips that hold the box together

seperate the halves

Call NPD: order new plastic plenum box for defroster ducts, heater core, and heater box seal kit.

replace in reverse order.

Its not hard dont be worried...it took me about 2 hrs the first time cold turkey now it takes me longer to write this message than it does to replace the heater core.

NOTE: the hoeses from water pump and intake hook to heater core in a certian way I think as in WP is top port or bottom port I DO NOT KNOW WHICH YOU SHOULD FIND OUT BEFORE YOU PUT IT BACK TOGETHER

EXTRA HINT: Once the box is all back together and you know which hose goes where. fit the hoses to the heater core and clamp them well and do this before you mount the heater core. Attempting to put hoses on onec heater box is mounted is very difficult.

seems like gun has ovberhauled his whole heating system before.
I went through the same/. I was freezing my **** off, couldn't drive in rain

in my car (64 1/2) i have two speed fan (left low, middle off and right high)
I couldn't for the world figure on how it actually was supposed to work until I checked on an exploded part view. my heater plenum was !cardboard! i was always wondering where those cardboard pieces in the front belonged to until i matched some of them agains a plastic plenum .... my hoses were cut off as well (bridged).
If you want nice you can get original style hoses to heater, if you don't care you can get them by the yard.

and amen to: if you have to take out the heater attach the new hoses to it and route them through the hoses in firewall instead of attemtping to mount them from to the core from the engine bay side (PITA!)

so what I needed all in all was:
the hoses, plenum and defrost kit (the 2 plastic snorkels leading up to dash). was all missing
