Something faded
I got new door panels and kick panels for the 65 yesterday. I know the repro colors can be pretty far off sometimes but this is kind of funny. The new kick panels match the old door panels and the new door panels match the old kick panels.
The difference in color in the door panels shows pretty well in the photos but the new kick panel looks darker in the photo than it really is. It is actually a real nice match to old door panel.
I wonder if these parts actually matched from the factory...probably not.
I also noticed the new kick panels have a much larger lip around the formed edge. I don't know if that will make a difference in fit.
Well, it's really not a permanent change-out anyway. The old panels are not bad, just 44 years old and getting faded and kind of brittle. I wanted to preserve them by using repros and letting them take the scuffing and such. I'll keep the old panels in the basement and switch them back in when I want to show the car as an original.

In my experience, gold and green are the two most difficult colors to match across the various parts, different materials, and different manufacturers. Following closely is blue, then believe it or not, white. Black and red seem to be fairly consistent.

Yes, it will make a huge difference trying to get them to fit under the scuff plates as I recently found out the hard way. You pretty much have to shave down the end that is suppose to go under the scuff but be careful....I cut too much off one of mine and it has a gap now. I also found it is difficult to impossible to line up the old holes on the new kick panels. Worked much better to put the kick plate in the spot that I wanted it and then drilled new holes through the kick panel and the metal behind all at once.

That's interesting. I haven't had any problems as far as color matching goes with my interior stuff, which surprises me because my interior is "Dark Ivy Gold" and 1/3 of the repro parts are called "Dark Green", a 1/3 are called "Ivy Gold" and the last ones are proper "Dark Ivy Gold" so it's a gamble for me, especially when you factor in that "Ivy Gold" is a light golden green in previous years to my dark green with a hint of gold.
for sure all those other suggestions would have worked
