Ignition coil question

Does the distance between the ignition box / coil / distributor matter? If so which should the coil be closer to.. the distributor?
I'll be mounting the box in the cabin under the dash and it would have been nice to mount the coil here as well. Something in my head however tells me the coil should be as close to the distributor as possible. Is this correct?
Thanks

The closer the coil is to the distributor the better. This lessens the distance for the secondary which is the spark. Put your box under the dash and run the small gauge primary wires to the coil. Mount the coil on the head, manifold, or even wheel well, which ever is most convenient. Also, some coils need to be mounted with the tower pointing up. Others can be on there side.

I knew this.. really I did! Really
I've still got the old bracket which I bead blasted and had powder coated mirror black. I'll use that mounted by the distributor somewhere. Thanks.
