Fuel flow problem/question
I had chunks of rubber getting in my old falcon years ago from the factory rubber lines breaking down.
Something to think about could have the 40 year old lines in places still. Not assuming anything just it was a surprise to find a lil brass filter hiding behind the fuel inlet in my factory carb. The combo of those 2 problems drove me nuts for a month till i replaced all the above.

As for the old gas tank, here's what I found when I replaced mine. The fuel sending unit looked like this:

Here's the new one for comparison:

Totally worth $100 for new tank/sending unit.
+1 on fuel line and filter replacement as well.
Good Luck!

Sonsays it happens an both cold and hot and yes, it's getting worse now after replacing the line and filter from the pump to the carb.
So, I got:
*Replace old rubber and check that God aweful sending unit in the tank
*Check fuel pressure
*Once those are good, The carb is the problem assuming I don't find other gook in the new filter.
Unless I missed something, that's what I going with.
