Default Fuel flow problem/question

I have 65 coupe with a 302 and when I press the accelerator, sometimes it stutters and stalls - especially when hot. It has a, soon to be replaced, stock 2bbl carb.

What's the diagnosis? Float level? Fuel pump? Mixture? Any help is appreciated.

Is the fuel line running close to the exhaust manifolds/headers? When fuel lines get too hot the gas evaporates. Check your fuel line from pump to carb and fuel filter would be my first start.

Is your carb leaking at all that you can see? Also does it happen when going through turns or on a hill?

Don't know about the turning. Actually, it's my son's car. I replaced the filter from the pump and that cleared the problem for a couple months. Now, it's back.

I'll check the fuel line proximity to the manifold. No leaks on the carb, that I can see.

Ideas? Is this a float problem maybe?

If you replaced the filter and it got better, your problem is likely a clogged fuel filter again. With an old tank, it's not uncommon to have a lot of crap built up that's getting sucked through the lines. Replace the fuel filter again, see what happens. If it gets better, you should consider replacing the tank.

Yup what starfury said. Sounds like crap in the tank. Try a new filter, maybe a clear universal like you get at napa. If it clogs after a month or two you need a new tank. If you can afford it its a good time to change the fuel lines too. Stainless upgrades are cheap and last a long time.

Ruway, any chance you could do a pump pressure and volume check? ( about 15 mins work if you have the pressure gauge). This would tell you if it was supply or carb.

volume check : 1 pint in 20 secs. press 4-6 psi (both values are with the engine at idle)
