Just bought a Classic!
Hello everyone, Steve here from North Dallas. Just last weekend I purchased a 1966 Mustang w/289 automatic locally. The guy I bought it from will be delivering it to me on Saturday.
I bought this car to restore. I do know enough about Mustangs to only be dangerous - but what a find...!
This Mustang was originally purchased in '66 at a Ford dealer in Dallas, so she's been local. All numbers matching. No metal has ever been replaced. No bondo. No RUST. I checked the floors, the cowl, the shock towers, frame rails, quarters, trunk, etc. and NO rust. When I first talked to the guy on the phone he told me 100% rust free, and I was like...yeah...ok...whatever.
What a surprise and a gem.
She does need work. He took the motor out to rebuild it and the quarters are dented. All original interior, full length console and also factory AC!
My biggest fear? He removed the engine and the wiring to start to prepare the engine bay for paint. Sounds ok right? I'll have to figure how to put humpty back together again. Will most likely find someone local and pay them, cause I'll just screw it up. LOL.
This is going to be so much fun. I've been looking to restore a '66 for so long now but each one I look at is either pieced together or has rust everywhere.
Pics will be coming as soon as able.

i have it for a little over a year and now the whole thing is literally falling apart...... o well
I'm almost tempted to recommend you buy a new wiring harness since the wiring is already out. The old ones will work, but they'll be brittle and the insulation may not be the best, fresh wires will never hurt, especially if you want to do a few electrical upgrades in the future.

grr lol
