Default Interior idea?

Well the good news is that my interior is coming along nicely. The headliner and seats were in great shape when I bought the car. Not long after I bought it I replaced the dash pad and the new carpet went in as a part of replacing the floor pans about a month ago.

I recently refinished my glove box door since repos were a $100 verse a rattle can of semi-gloss black that cost me $2.97

My next step I have been thinking about is to repaint my dash. It looks "ok" overall but has a few scratches, especially right by the ignition. I was thinking of waiting till the weather was crappy then taking most of the stuff off my dash, tape / news print up the rest and painting the dash.

I started thinking though....currently my interior is black and the dash is painted black. I have some left over candy apple red since we painted the roof and back end of the car recently.

How would it look if I kept the black dash pad, carpet, etc, etc but painted the dash candy apple to match the exterior? I would leave the instrument bezel and glove box door, etc the black camera case finish and just paint the dash. Would probably paint the steering column while leaving the door panels black.

I found this picture on the net that while a different color scheme than mine might give you the idea.

Basically, I am wondering how it would look to paint the dash red to match the exterior and leave the rest of the interior black?

Will it be the only thing red in the interior? IMO, I think it will look a little out of place.

yeah, that was my concern, I wasn't planning on changing anything else from black in the interior

I painted the lower section of my doors (under the door panels) body color, complete with clear to match the outside. It looks good since it now matches the door jam and rocker panels. It's easier to clean scuff marks from shoes, too.

Painting the dash (candy apple red) only? Only the lower part, and not the steering column, I think would be cool.

Well I have a atlanctic blue mustang, and decided to paint my interior about a week ago, it took some man hours but the finished product was much worth it.

My carpet is new, literally a month old so going to be keeping it for a while. We had to take the old faded / worn stuff out to put in floor pans anyway and for $100 no way I would putting the old nappy carpet back in, LOL!

When we did my floor pans we did notice there were holes on the hump that would suggest the car had a console at some point in the past....not sure if it came out of the factory with one?

To be honest I don't like consoles but some days I wouldn't mind having one for the benefit of cup holders if nothing else.

Might could do something with that as far as the color scheme but I think that might look really goofy. Trying to purchase red interior parts that matched Candy Apple might be difficult at best.

Perhaps painting just the lower dash and leaving the steering column alone, etc might be cool though?

I hear ya about the man hours. Thinking I am going to wait to paint the dash until the weather is crappy and I won't be driving it anyway. My guess is to do it right you need to take off the dash pad, remove radio, remove instruments, glove box, switches the whole nine yards. None of it is hard to remove and put back but it will take some time.
