We seem to be "creeping" a bit on the suggestions. Not much point in doing heads if you're not going to do at least a mild cam . . . and then you might as well do . . . aarggghhh.

OP feel free to correct me, but I think that carb and manifold only is a good place to pause. A smallish 4-barrel on a dual-plane manifold aimed only a little higher than the base OE 4 barrel manifold is what I think you're after here. Appearance does seem to be an important consideration in this case.

Or you could run a single plane intake.

Im new here. But have been reading all i can get my hands on.
Dont overlook a stock 4 barrel manifold with a 4100 autolite carb. As has been mentioned alot of guys wanna throw a big 4 on there and the engine cant use all this fuel/air.
I think the stock set up was discussed on the fast fords web site. The 4100 was called the shoebox carb and from what ive read requires less tinkering than say a holley etc.. just my 2 cents

Glen, aka "Soaring" to some of us, would have pushed for using the 4100 from the get-go. Very knowledgeable about the classic Mustangs.

That he would. But you had to respect the knowledge.

Before I started doing cam and head swaps on my old 289 ,a victor jr intake and a carter 525 carbwas a big improvement.
Best thought in my head is just go petronix while your at it.
