i'd be looking at a hyd flat tappet cam, one of the smaller crane z series would make you really happy.

those 40P's have bigger chambers than the 289's, you are gonna gonna gonna have to get them milled down to keep your compression somewhere in the halfway normal range. you can have .020 knocked off each side and still have everything bolt up ok. keep in mind it will shorten your pushrod length by that much though, but your gonna wanna measure length anyways.

i used flat top pistons with 4 valve reliefs, i zero decked the block, and my heads were milled down to approx 60cc and my compression is only between 9 and 9.5:1.... if you leave everything as is and just re-ring it your gonna loose your *** on the compression, and every little bump in compression makes a difference in power.

Forget the dual points. Go electronic.
I like the shorty headers. Better ground clearance and they will fit around any tranny.
Your harmonic balancer is due for a rebuild. The rubber has deteriorated over the years.
You need a head that has 58cc chambers to keep your compression close to stock. I believe that the AFR 165s are available in this size. 289 heads can be reworked to flow better but will cost some money to do it right.
Custom ground hydraulic roller cam is a good idea. The special link bar lifters you need are well over $400 these days. I don't care for the 303 cam. A good roller grind from Comp was $250 a few years ago.
Have fun...
