Question HELP PLEASE.

Ineed help in finding a reasonable price to offer a younger fellow for his 66 GT notchback. It is a 225hp,4speed,green in color, standard interior, one family owned since new.Irebuilt the engine, brakes etc.in 1984 for his dad,so I have known the car for at least 30 years. His son had the car repainted and gone over again about 2 years ago,new wheels, interior, exhaust, lots of new parts, radio etc. and just parked it on a carport and left it where it has weathered but I still would call it a very nice car.Never been in an accident,as org. as you will find, not perfect fit and finish, but not bad.He said he would only sell to me with the promise that I would make the car right all over and would give him the chance to buy back if I ever sold it again.Would not price the car, asked me to make him an offer I could live with.Could anyone advise with a price that would not embarass either one of us?Thanks in advance.

$8k, but only because it is an A-code, 4 speed GT.

It's a fastback (which is really a notchback). $12k, unless it needs a lot of work.

A notchback is a coupe. If it is a fastback, then I up my offer to $16k. I sold my 1966 fastback GT (A-code, 4 speed) with a pony interior for $11k in 1989.

yeah anything in the 7 to 8 range is probably a fair price for the coupe.

Based on your description, I'd think it'd be worth closer to $10k if it is in good condition like you describe. FWIW, I sold a '65 GT coupe two years ago for $5K that needed paint, wheels/tires and the engine freshened up. Check ebay completed sales for your best bet on pricing.

A coupe is a coupe:P (Actually, it's not, technically, but meh) I've always heard and have myself referred to 65-66 fastbacks as notchbacks, because they're not true fastbacks.

Coupes are notchbacks which were followed by fastbacks.

The car obviously means something to the guy, I assume his father has passed away. He respects you enough to be comfortable selling it to you which means something too.

To be fair and with a buyback option I'd say:
Coupe - $9K
Fastback- $15K

How the buyback is handled could have a bearing on the price.
