Stripes
I am going to have my 1966 GT painted and have new stripes put on. Has anyone considered having the stripes painted rather than use the decals? There is is guy out here who will strip the clearcoat, ad stripe effects and reapply the clearcoat. While this is usually done for accent stripes on custom cars, I thought painted GT stripes would be more durable than the original adhesive type. What do you think?
They will definitely look better assuming they're done properly, but you have to find somebody who knows what they're doing, otherwise you end up with a crappy end product.
I'm assuming your car's been repainted already with a bc/cc.

Make sure they get the dimensions right. Nothing worse than stripes with incorrect dimensions or placement. My glorious, painted stripes cost a total of $8. By glorious, I mean barely adequate.

Thanks for the advice. I was planning on buying the stripe kit and a paper template to provide the painter with the tools to insure proper placement and size. This guy works on $20,000 + custom show paint jobs and I have see some of his work...top notch.

The stripes under the doors are tricky to lay out. They are one inch below the bottom of the c scoop. Half inch for the outer stripes (with half inch gap to big center one). Center stripe is just over 2 inches. Maybe 2 1/8, I just can't remember. Basically, it needs to slightly go past the gap under the door. From what I researched, they varied a little though.
PS - I didn't bring the stripes all the way to the base of the windshield because I didn't have to have to clean paint out of the vent slats (a pain in the ***). So I did this... Not the greatest, but whatever.

I had my stripes painted on when the car was being painted. As long as the guy measures it out instead of just trying to "eyeball" it then they should turn out ok.

The width and placement came from this car used to have a turn signal hood. I did like they used to and brought some stripes out of the turn signals in that hood. Unlike what they used to do, I took them all of the way back. When I put the windsor in it I needed a taller hood so I bought the cowl hood and kept the stripes in the same place. One of these days I need to get the front lower part done (front valance and the part in front of the grill)

Spraying the stripes on looks beter imo !

I also did it with my car, its important to take the time to measure the stripes.
Its alot of work to do it correctly with my car my painter put alot of effort in smoothing the stripes (you cant feel them on the car). It was sanded down around the edges of the lines and sealed with 6 layers of clear.
