Default Coil Spring sugestions?

I am replacing front springs on a 1966 GT fastback. I have already placed BFGoodrich T/A 22560R15 all around. What are the best springs? 1" drop? Stock GT? I assume that 40 year old springs are giving me a les-than-stock height right now. I hear the 1" drops are stiffer. Not quite sure what this means in relation to ride, considering I am using replacement stock components...no modern coil overs or anything like that. Oh yeah..I have Edelbrock ASI's all around.

Thanks!

What size engine do you have, what are the condition of your streets, and what do you drive your car for (ex. daily driving, weekend cruiser...)?

Sorry...Ihaveastock 289 no A/C. Decent streets/freeways in this part of the country. It will be driven 2-3 days a wee max, but mostly 1-2.

Thanks

If you don't care much about ride comfort (which you may not, considering it's not a daily driver), you can probably deal with 620lb 1" drop springs with roller spring perches. Your Edelbrocks will help with ride quality as well. If you'd rather have a smooth ride, go for 1" drop 540's.

620lbs will ride like a truck 540lbs are great for a well rounded spring.

im actually buying a kit that comes with the 620lb coils. if its not a dd then who cares if its a bit rough, i mean it is a muscle car lol. also keep in mind, a 2003 mustang gt have 650lb coils all around and they ride fine

That's comparing apples to...potatos. The suspension on an '03 Mustang is a completely different creature. There's a lot more to ride quality and handling than just coil spring rate.

If the roads are smooth and he's got roller perches and Edelbrock shocks, 620's should be tolerable. I've got 540lb springs, roller perches, and Edelbrock shocks on my '67 which I drive every day, and I think it's on the stiff side given the crappy roads here. I still like it, but I don't think many other people would. The only way I'd consider 620lb springs is if I was only driving it occasionally on smooth roads or on the track.

2003 mustang is what 3400lbs or so 64-68 coupes are 2500lbs.I would get progressive rate springs open tracker sells them they are the best of both worlds. And btw all mustangs are pony cars its where the name came from since a mustang is a horse.

Default Thanks

Thanks to everyone for the input. I guess I am really confused about these spring ratings. Recently, I was told that they don't really refer to the stiffness, but diameter of the spring. I don't want a really stiff, hard ride. Maybe more info of these different spring rates and how the 1" drop affects this. Thanks!

If you want a smoother ride, go with 540's or progressives. It'll still be firm and handle well, but won't be as jarring if you have to drive on rough pavement.

The shelby drop won't affect ride quality, but it will have a major affect on handling. No question about it, do it while you've got everything apart.
