Default original tooling?

im looking at buying a new front valance for my '66, there is 2 options, the regular one for 35 bucks, or original tooling for 70 bucks. is there a difference between the 2?

for the extra 35 I would buy the ford tooling valence. I recently bought it for my car and it fit pretty well. With a repo you might run into some issues with way it lines up/fitting. Of course nothing is going to fit as good as the original probably.

If it was a fender I would probably go with the repo just b/c of the cost difference.

Here is a pic of the ford tooling valence I put on before I had the car painted.

That $35 additional cost of the original tooling is a bargain!

You will spend lots more time and cursing trying to get the other to fit.

Get the original tooling version.

FWIW, my experience was the exact opposite. The repop fender fit like total poo with the Ford tooling fitting like a glove whereas the repop valence fit just fine. The valence is pretty straight forward, but the fender gets pretty tricky, especially at the headlight bucket area.

Stay away from the repro crap. Go with the ford tooling when ever and where ever you can! It will cost more but it will save you much grief.

I too used a repop valance and it fit perfect. As for repop fenders...I bought from two different vendors, because I decided to replace one some time after the other before painting, and both fit different and not as good as Ford. You can adjust each lower front fender to fit the valance.

Sometimes its not just about getting it to fit but the way the lines/gaps look on the car. A guy I know has a 70 chevelle SS and he purchased a repo quarter and it fit good but the lines/gaps between the body are not as rounded where it curves near the trunk.. its more of a straighter edge if that makes since
