351 swap
okay so i keep hearing about the 5.0 swap to make your car efi but i was thinking... yeah they have lot of potential but like the old saying there is no replacment for displacment. how well would a efi 351w fit in our cars?? like one from a first gen lightning? or a truck?? i know its set up for low end torque but with the right heads it would work... right?? is there any records of anyone doing this?? or is it even possible? is there a hood that fits other then like a 7" cowl??
opinions?
opinions?
Don't know about the EFI with 351W, but prior to having the EFI 5.0L GT-40 engine, I had a built 351W in my '65 fastback. Besides the fact that it is VERY tight between the shock towers on a 65/66, with street tires, I couldn't put that much power to the ground with the 351W (394 ft-lb. @ 3000 rpm at the rear wheels).
Bottom line is that it sounds like a fun project on a '67 and up but not so much on a 65/66. For displacement and EFI, I'd probably go with the 331/347 instead due to the lighter weight, better fit (size) and availability of parts.

The work is the same for a 302 or a 351. The intake you choose will effect the hood clearance. Any upper intake for a 302 will fit a 351, the lower intake is the only difference. I had to put in a tear drop hood but my upper is a big "box" and wanted something different..
Correct me if if I'm wrong LCC, but aren't those box intakes with short runners are more suited for supercharged vehicles such as your own (don't want any surprises most others who are naturally aspirated).
