Default Which Oil Would You Use?

As we know there are 101 choices for motor oil. I have used the same oil in my application for the last 7 years and everyone always suggests their own personal favorite without actually know whats best for the motor.

I would like to know which Brand oil and Weight of Oil you would used for my application.

To start with, Valvoline VR-1 10W30. It's specifically designed for use in flat-tappet cam engines that require oils with high zinc content for anti-wear.

After 10k miles, I'd switch to Mobil 1 20W50 (not any other Mobil 1 oil) or a Redline or Royal Purple oil. Like Valvoline's VR-1, these oils have enough zinc to properly protect your camshaft from wear/damage.

Having lunched a cam a couple years ago running nothing but Castrol GTX, I'm sticking with oils with a high zinc content.

I only use Castrol in mine. I don't really know the difference between companies so I just get what my dad usually gets for his truck.

I use either 10W30 or 10W40(don't remember which), I go by the owners manual.

I have been running the valvoline VR-1 racing oil 10-30wt for close to a year now it feels like ( at least 7 months) It was 70 bucks a case (I bought a new case today)

Seems like its okay nothing has locked up in the past 7 months

I get whatever brand is on sale: 10W40 or sometimes 20W50. I change the oil 4 times a year, that's like every 2500-3000 miles. The oil is always fresh.

holy S197 sig BA!!!!!!!!!!!

i've always been a pennzoil 10w40 fan, but in the past few years with everyone screwing up their zinc content it's become a messed up situation. does anyone know if the 15w40 pennzoil diesel oil still has the zinc?
