Default Valve Guides

How?
i don't have the heads at my house now, they are at my friends garage...
I made some money today shoveling snow, so i am ordering parts...

Are valve guides something i can do myself, or does the machine shop have to do it?

and btw, i got my block all clean, deburred, chased all the threads, and taped up to paint.
crank; hot tanked, mic'd and polished, and he said since my work is all the time sending him work and i just sent him whole motor rebuild job, for a friend he did the block cleaning bore and hone for 200, Crank work for 50, and will hot tank heads for 25. (there's another 300 bucks i didn't plan on spending)

since i don't wanna make him do any more work than he has to when he is giving me a deal, what should i do to my head before it goes there, i know remove all the valves and springs, but back to my original question can i take out my valve guides, or is that something the machine shop does?

haha i always get carried away and start talking in circles when i post on here..... sorry

if your guides need work, you cannot do that yourself. and honestly you should let the machine shop do your heads anyways because they will do a much better job resurfacing the seats then you could ever hope for with a hand valve lapping tool, not to mention they can resurface them which you should always have done.

yea i just took off my heads, was thinking of doing them but its best to reface them, and since you gonna do that, you might as well get them to sit the valves and clean everything nicely.

Im all ready for painting the engine block with the pistons in, then all i have to do is put back the heads and seal everything up nicely.
