Default New tail lights installed, issues...

I just finished installing a new wiring harness and a solid LED tail light kit. They are BRIGHT!

They work as running lights, they get brighter when the brake is applied, and the blinkers work. However, when I press the brake, both turn signal indicators light up(?) Also, the emergency flasher does not work now...I flip the switch and there is no response or change in any lighting-front or rear. Anyone have any ideas? I know this has been an issue with people before. Is it possible I have a bulb (bulb plug for LED) in upside-down? Where exactly is the ground connection made? When I did the testing the taillight housing+screws were off.

Also, is it illegal if they are too bright? I never thought of it before, but these things are insanely bright when the brakes are applied. I suppose I will find out when I have a cop verify that they work, because I got a fix-it ticket.

The ground connection is the taillight socket, taillight housing, chassis. Your problem is probably in the turnsignal switch area. The indicaters are wired into the front turnsignals. They also would do this if the emergency flasher switch was turned on but you would have to have a bad flasher or the would flash when you let up on the brakes. Do the front turnsignals come on when you press the brakes? They should if the indicators are lighting.

I will have to check in the morning. I will add that everything worked just fine until my passenger side tail light went out. After it went out that was the only problem-turn signals, emergency flasher-all worked fine.

Ditch those old thermo flashers and install solid state units. They are like 18 bux, they will have a stedy flash pattern regardless of the current (burnt out bulb etc.) or the condition of the battery. Also makes troubleshooting easy. I think your leds will only work with the current flowing one way.

Will a solid state unit have the same terminal hookup? I can get one at Napa, Autozone, etc? Link to example?

I don't know the answer to your question but if it makes you feel any better my park lights on the front light up whenever I apply the brake also.

I have had the turn signal switch that goes under the steering wheel on my work bench for a good while now and that could likely be the problem but I haven't gotten around to testing the theory yet. It is on my short list of things to get done now since my horn also doesn't work and I have my state inspection coming up in March or April...or whenever it has been a years since I bought my car which I think is early April.

Someone else had also suggested I might have a bad "ground strap" running from the block to the fire wall. I am not certain if I even have one at all but I do plan to add or replace that at some point.

LOL thats FOR SURE a bad ground. I absolutely hate working with the stock wire harness, but then again if its not broke, dont fix it!!!

Thanks for pointing those out uibalnme...didn't know such a thing existed but I was just thinking the other day a new flasher might help my emergency lights start working.

I think I may need a new switch also but will get around to it soon.
