Default well crap - tranny

Ok so coming home today I think my transmission is going on me.

I have noticed a lack of power for a few weeks.

But now it is really wrapping up the RPM's before it even thinks about shifting out of first.

Anyone else think I have a transmission going bad?

It is about 13 or 14 years past last rebuild....maybe 50k miles.

Wondering what a rebuild will cost or would it be extensively more expensive to try and convert it to a manual since I hate automatics anyway.....

Anyone had a tranny rebuilt lately who would have an idea regarding costs?

It's all good....there is a guy in the local car club that owns a transmission shop.

Called him before they closed this evening and going to try and take the Mustang over there either tomorrow or first thing next week.

He basically didn't say anything regarding cost, wanted to check it out and see what is wrong first.

He did tell me he felt that conversion to a manual would hurt the value of the car if it came out of the factory as an auto....also mentioned that he had seen many of these types of conversions and most of them were pretty jerry rigged.

I guess you checked the easy stuff like fluid level and no vacuum leaks in the modulator line? Hopefully, it is nothing serious.

There were millions of 65-66 coupes built, so unless you've got a K code GT in immaculate condition, swapping from auto to manual "because that's what it came with from the factory" will have microscopic effect on the car's value. In fact, in today market, swapping to a 5 speed would most likely increase the value of the car over an auto.

Since early mustangs did not have pull type clutch mechanisms like the late model 5 speeds, then by definition every swap would be "jury rigged". And btw, have you SEEN a factory push clutch setup? it looks like a terrible design right out of Detroit. Most have bent and failed over the years.

A rebuild shouldnt cost more than $700-750.
