Different Exhaust
im planning on getting my single exhaust on my 289, redone and getting a dual exhaust with flowmaster 40's
i was wondering if instead of the normal dual exhaust going to the back of the car if i had it come out by the doors, one by the driver door and one by the passanger door
would shortening the length of my exhaust improve anything?
such as sound or any engine improvments?
THANKS!

Like Starfury said, it's going to be loud and I never like that look. If you really want to take that route I would just have them dump just before the rearend.
But personally, I would run the exhaust all the way out the back. Make sure you run at least 2-1/4" to 2-1/2" pipe with an H-Pipe included. Just my opinion.

Runway1, its all about the look your going for. I have dual 40s on my 65 289 that come out the back and turn down just before the rear valance. I like the look, although I think coming out the side looks pretty sweet too. Gives it that hotrod/drag car look. Just depends on what your going for. As far as sound and performance goes...having them come out the side shortens the distance for the exhaust to exit, and it doesnt have to go through several tight bends to get over the real axle, so in essence a little bit less back pressure. As far as sound wise, it will be louder, because again the pipes are shorter. I am young and like things to be loud, so I say go for it. However, its not that it will be that much louder, its just that it will be coming out alot closer to your ears so it will be percieved as being louder. Either way, the louder the better. Why have a sweet mustang if its gonna be quiet, right. If you want something quiet, go buy a ****ing Hyundai Excel or something, you know.
As an opposing viewpoint, why have something obnoxiously loud that isn't actually powerful? hehe:P Louder isn't always better. Running Flowmaster 40's with dumps is basically asking for hearing damage.
I run Flowmaster Hushpower II's behind my 331. They're plenty loud when you get on the throttle, but not blatty/raspy like chambered mufflers, and they have a nice even tone while cruising/idling.

Yes
I couldn't actually justify the cost, but after drooling over them for a couple years, a few of my friends pitched in and bought them for me for my birthday a couple years ago. One of the best birthday gifts ever
I've never seen another set on a car in person, and no other car I've ever seen sounds quite like mine.
