Default 1967 mustang with 4.6l cobra engine

I want to put this 4.6 L 32 valve engine into my 1967 fastback.
If I get rid of the shock towers will the engine fit? And will I be able to use my stock hood?

Thanks for any and all advice

G

Good lord Vesco. You and Evil Eleanor have engine bays to be envious of.

It doesn't have to be. I'm still under a grand on my project. Although it may not be as pretty at the moment. Just takes a lot of welding and fabrication. If you get a cobra motor and do the mustang II suspension it starts getting expensive. The 4V's were used in several vehicles and you can pick up an engine from one of those for a lot less than the cobra. I bought a complete running mark VIII that had a busted headlight and cracked hood for $600. Guess what suspension I'm using. You know the saying "There is more than one way to skin a cat".

If you run coilovers up front you can notch the towers enough to squeeze the motor in. I don't think you will be able to clear the stock hood though but i'm not sure.

Im not sure if you can get a 03 in by notching the towers I know that with a mustang ll front end you still have to notch the frame rail on the left side for the alternator. As far as the hood I dont think a stock hood will clear. Most conversions that Ive looked at usually use the cobra pan and they have to notch the back of the crossmember to clear the oil pan. They also raise the front of the engine to make it clear. I fabricated a pan for mine using a mark8 pan then enlargened the sump. It is thinner up front and has a shorter rear sump. This allowed me to move my engine forward and keep the front of the engine down without cutting the crossmember. My hood clears by a couple of inches.

For the dohc you have to cut out the shock towers the sohc you can get away with notching them.Unless you love a headache and have a deep wallet pass on a mod motor.

I don't see how notching the shock towers would be more work than welding on a mustang II IFS but what do I know. If you can fit a 2V by notching the towers you can do the same with the 4V. There is not that much of a difference in widths where it would set between the towers.

If you ever have to pull the valve covers off you cant with it in the car that's why i said remove them with a 4 cam.A lot of it depends on how the engine sits in the bay.
