Default Help 289 = 302

New to the forum, So I apologize if I do this wrong.
Does anyone know if you can use the internals of a 302 roller motor and heads, on a 289 motor? Any Info, personal knowledge, or links would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance .

289 > 302. keep the 289 a 289 IMO. but yes, everything will bolt in eccept the roller cam, which you will need an adapter kit for

The crank isn't the same. The 5.0 crank is designed for a one-piece rear main seal, while the 289 is designed for a two-piece. I believe it's possible to machine the 289 crank for use in the roller motor.

I keeping the 289 but was thinking of using the 302 parts to rebuild it.

I'd say keep the 289. It revs up slightly faster, and torque gains from the 302 are going to be negligible, especially if you build the engine properly.

It depends on what year 302 you're talking about. The early 302's have the same main seal.

he was talking roller 302, which means it doesn't have the lip.

yes you can put a early crank into a later block with a little machining (which is what i did) but you cant go the other way.

also everyone is right, stick with the 289. you want more power? sky's the limit bud, just gotta know how fast you wanna go and how fat your wallet is.

How much power r u looking for. 300 hp from a 289 is very reasonalbe without killing the wallet. even 350 hp. more than that you had better have a fat wallet
