You can hack leaf perches onto an 8.8. You just need to make sure the pinion angle is set up right. A fox body 8.8 is the perfect width for your car, it just needs 5 lug axles, brakes, and leaf spring perches.

If you get a 8" from the same model years ei 67-68 it will bolt right up. I believe some of the shelbys had 9" somewhere in there??

What kind of power are you looking to put out? Are you looking to race the car at any point? If so, strip or track?

9" axles are great for handling power, but they're (generally) expensive, hard to find in the right width (often need to be resized), and heavy.

8.8's are easy to find for cheap (how many fox bodies are out there?), easy to convert to 5 lug, are the right width as is, and they're lighter than a 9". I wouldn't put one behind a big block or a blown 347, but they'll hold a pretty good amount of power if built properly.

8" rears are ok. They'll handle 350hp or so in a daily driver, but sticky tires and/or excessive abuse on the strip can break one at that level. It's also harder to find one in the proper width for your car.

okay well 8" sounds like the way i will be going. i plan on 350 to 375 DD not excesive abuse but i like spinning the tires every once in a while. and if its not the right width wouldnt i be able to just use a spacer or a diff offset wheel?

With that power range, I'd recommend an 8.8". Proper width, cheap, easy conversion, and it'll handle the power. If you can find a 9" for a good price, that would be a good option as well.

An 8" is going to be hard to find in the right width unless it came out of a 67-68 Mustang/Cougar, and I would recommend against spacers. More often you have to narrow the axle to fit. Wheels with different backspacing are an option, but a PITA when they're different than the front, and they tend to look kinda retarded like that. Also, 350hp is the upper end of the power limit for an 8". You have to swap anyway, so you might as well get something strong enough to not have to worry about breaking it.

For a 9 inch try http://www.perogie.com/Rears.htm http://www.mustangmasters.com/ and any online junkyards.Currie does make a bolt in housing and axle kit but its not cheap.
