Default Tire fitment issues?

Just for the fun of it I tried to mount up some 16 X 8's with 4.5 backspacing and ran into some problems, like the fenders. Anyway the tire size is 245-45-16 (Hoosier's) and they are just a bit too big. I would like to use the rims but I am now not too sure that even that can be done. I've heard they make 2X4 stretchers and skyhooks, but do they make a rim shrinker? Here is an article from Mustang Monthly that covers tire/rim combo's and what fit, or supposed to. http://www.mustangmonthly.com/techar...fit/index.html
So armed with the info, if I were to use a 225-50-16, will they fit? Its funny that I cut the rear housing down 1/2" more than a stock 65-6 housing and they still don't fit. It seems that the answer is to buy a rim with more backspacing, but what happens when it bumps into the UCA. I think that 4.5 on the front is about the most you can go without hitting and thats about the standard. What I thought was a simple matter has now became complicating. Here are some photos of the 245's. Time for plan "B".

Great looking car!

I think 225/50 is what works with 16s, but am not sure. 16's are my favorite on 65/66 because they have a bit more sidewall than 17s. Even with the 225s, Im pretty sure fenders have to be rolled.
