Default Restoring a 66 Coupe!!!

Well, I am almost finished in the process at this point, but I thought some of you may like to see some pics of the process and feel free to ask questions. I may have an answer about it. Enjoy!

In the beginning...I bought it for a grand.

Skip ahead a few months...

New floor pans.

Fixed the fenders!

Minor repair on the cowl...yes I covered it solid!

Vinyl top ruined the sail panels....patched

Rusty A-pillars...fixed

Shaved the driprails off!

Right quarter replaced...notice the seam along the ORIGINAL body line!

Working out the dents..just to later replace the quarter.

Replaced the tail light panel also.

"Edge painting" under the valance, fenders, and some interior parts...

Installing the headliner so I can get glass in it!

Thats it for now..been a 2 year ordeal so far and hope its only about a month or two left...

Thanks. It's a labor of love for me and the car is for my wife. I have a 65 Fairlane 2 dr. Hardtop that is next in line. All body sheet metal is original except the quarters, tail light panel, and glass hood going on it.

I see you decided to do away with the cowl tophats and vent on the top. Were the originals really bad?
Noticed the center pull emergency brake lever also. We did the same and I am having trouble getting the front cable (the small one) to clamp with the cable clamp. What are you doing for the boot around the e brake? I may have to learn to sew I think.

Thank you for grabbing that pile of rust and restoring it. I hate to see cars parted out and chopped up to be destroyed forever (although some have no choice). Nice job on bringing that one back to life. It is looking good!

Exactly!!! If I had enough time and money I would want to do the same but I don't so for now it's restoring old forgotten dirtbikes.

Yeah, the tophats were BAD and that led to the floor pans rotting out. I didn't want more leaves collecting in the cowl, thus the reasoning behind making the "vent" solid and it adds a unique appearance for my wife's car. As far as the e-brake, it was already installed like that and I haven't really inspected it good yet. I am thinking of fabbing something to go around the handle so I can attatch a boot to it or atleast som kind of rubber seal. Here is a link for more info....http://home.bresnan.net/~dazed/e-brake
