I have the Ron Francis kit that I will install when I get my car back. It seems pretty straight forward and is great quality.

TAKE YOUR TIME (walk away when needed), keep your old wires for pickin through and ref. , invest in some better connectors / tools, and get a good volt meter. other wise it was really fun/ easy and you will know your cars wiring 100% when your done. Hope this helps man, good luck and like i said TAKE YOUR TIME.

thanks for that advice

i feel like i can conquer such an install now since the only things i have wired are amps and stereos so far

Same here. Picked this up last year and will be installing in April after the car is painted. The wire quality is great, each wire is printed and labeled every foot or so, easy to follow directions in each bag & the Express Fuse panel is sweet! Since I have a Vintage Air setup the fresh air intake under the drivers side cowl has been removed giving me loads of room to install to the firewall and the MSD 2AL to the drivers side wall above kick panel.
Email and phone support for the product is great. I emailed a number of questions last year and got replies back directly from Ron. Replies were fully detailed, friendly and polite. He even called me to go over a few topics in regards to my fathers car.
Just remember.. this isn't a replacement wiring harness. This is a new custom wiring kit thats 100% better than the original harnesses. Good luck!

I'm going with the Ron Francis Bare Bonz wiring harness. When I called to order they said only order the express series if you are planning on adding stuff like power windows and such. If you don't need all the extra circuits the bare bonz is only $360.00.

BA MUSTANG, for now i want to keep it. from what i understand a v8 swap means a lottta $$. about a year ago i wanted to pick up a 302 and drop it in, it was only about 300, however after the tranny, rear-end, and susp. upgrades, i simply started looking for headers, elec. ign., and all the low cost upgrades, and thanks for the welcoming.......as for this other harness, i have never used it or know anything about it, however i do know that with the painless, EVERYTHING is labeled correctly, laser engraved, numbered, bundled, and best of all, matches the factory color scheme. (on most of the car, i think i found one wire that didn't match) all im saying is my experiance with painless was great, to truly say it was painless would be a lie, but if you take your time with it, everything works out nicely. Good luck

Adrenolin, is it ok to mount your MSD 2AL under your dash? I thought those should be mounted in a different location, like the engine bay (away from combustibles) just in case something happens to it and won't cause a fire, etc.

Yes they are fine to mount under the dash. The case is pretty much a big heat sink to dissipate heat from the circuitry. They produce no more heat then an aftermarket head unit and most amplifiers would produce much more. Also if your car will be a daily driver its best to keep the MSD box out of the engine bay as they are not sealed. The circuitry has a light protective coating however isn't not enough to protect it especially if your dealing with any road salt.

I've seen a number of shops install and recommend them being installed under the dash. I believe even the MSD book lists it as a recommended mounting location.

OIC. That does offer more protection than the cruel torments of the engine bay.

Most of my installs I put the MSD box under the dash.
