Surgery tips??
well im getting ready to go under the knife with my C4, lets put it this way, every other car i own is stick. but my classic muscle car is auto? sounds wrong to me..so its time to kick the c4 off and up to a t5. i heard this was a pretty simple swap. so heres what i know, i need a clutch conversion kit (dont know where to look for that) then i need a t5 tranny from an 83-93 stang. i hear one from a 4cl will work. is this true or should i look for a 6 or 8 cl? any tips or advice for this would really help. either way im dropping my c4, it needs to be rebuilt or trashed. thanks for any help.
The t5 must be from a v8 car the 4 banger uses the wrong size input shaft and the 4 banger and v6 ones won't handle the power and they are geared differently also.Try talking to http://www.moderndriveline.com/ they can sell you everything you need but the tranny.
you can get a clutch pedal from mustangsteve
you can get his clutch cable kit....which is not bad
Or
you can talk to Daze or jamesw here on the forum about going to the hydraulic setup...I had both the cable and the hydraulic setup...the hydraulic worked out better for me.
I have the stuff needed for the cable swap minus the clutch pedal if you go that route.

to make it driveable you can do a few things. but to get it to work good, your gona need a classic clutch pedal or fabricate a pedal thats similar since those pedals arnt easy or cheap to come by. going to need a clutch quadrant, firewall reinforcement plate and an adjuster nut that goes inside it. also a new crossmember, depending on your rear end you may need to shorten the driveshaft. and you maybe have to use an air hammer to make some clearance under the dash for the quadrant. possibly some cutting under the tunnel cause the t5 may hit the top of it and if its not up all the way its going to **** the motor downwards a bit. thats all that comes to mind right now. there is more work involved then you think, but if your up for it, its alot of fun when its complete. you can find all those parts on ebay for cheaper, a parts store is going to take you to the bank for all that
I did it. it was no big deal. I recommend the hydraulic clutch. That was the cable wont burn on your exhaust.
I built my own cross member. FakeSnake i believe also built his own. easy if you have the tools.
i had a 3 speed so i didnt have to woory about the pedal.
you will need to get your drive shaft shortend. I didnt but i have a vibration that i can attribute to it.
Get the yolk and the bell housing from the t5.
other that that you can figure it out as you go. easy.

im thinking of going cable, it shouldn't get burned up on my exhaust because im running out the other side. plus this seems the most straight forward. what bell will i need for this can grab one from the t5 or how does this work? Thanks for the help guys im feeling like i can do this.
this is what i got for the t5 swap and i couldnt be happier with how it works

as for the bellhousing, i think it depends on the motor you have. because to be honest im not sure if the t5 bolts up to the classic engines

what kind of fabrication did you have to do in order to put that cable system in your stang. as for the bell housing i know the t5 fits on 289 302 and 351s how ever i dont know about 200...thanks for everything
