Default 66 Rear window defroster

So I want to install a custom rear window defroster in my 66 coupe. By installing a 12 volt electric heater in the trunk and running a couple of heating ducts up through the rear package tray I could control it with an auxillary switch under the dash. It would defrost quick and add some back seat heating as well. The only problem is that I can't find the right type of heater. All I can find are space heaters. I need something I can run ducting off of. Any ideas where I can find one???

I've been thinking about this too. All I could come up with is a small hair dryer, and a power inverter. It's kind of a mickey mouse way to do it, but I guess it could work.

Anyway, that's my plan-B. Plan-A is rain-x anti-fog solution.

You could use a couple of ones like this:

Here's another page with lots of 12V heaters:

Another way to go is to install an OEM-type defroster: http://www.frostfighter.com/

we had a 95 astro van that had a rear heater, pretty sure it was electric. you could check with a junk yard, might be able to get one cheap.

if you do some research there must be the same way as with the modern cars. to use the electric strips. i'm quite sure you could get a set without a window :-]

edit: that's what google has to say:

Keep in mind, any sort of heater is going to require a lot of power. This may even require a bigger alternator. Modern cars with electric heater strips can use upwards of 15A for the heater circuit. Just something to think about.

No problem there. I've upgraded to a 100A one-wire.

I bought these for our rear window. It's the small 13" that you want. Not installed yet but I've seen them in other cars. Note that using a heater isn't a good thing depending on where you live. They heat up too quickly and could cause your window to crack or explode. The strips will not cause. Something to think about.

I've been looking at installing one of the FrostFighters in my '65 vert (glass rear window) -- has anyone tried this? The window folds in the middle when you lower the top, so I'm wondering if that would cause problems? Is there a way to install it so that folding and unfolding doesn't crease (and eventually break) the strip?
