Arrow Air Filter Dimensions

I need to get an air filter element for my 65.

Its going to have a 302 with Edelbrock performer rpm intake and Edelbrock 650 AVS carburator.

I want to get a KN X-Stream top filter. What size should I go with?

I have seen that the HiPo 289 filter is a 14 x 2 1/4 element.

Can I run a drop base and a 3 inch filter?

What size is the tallest you can go and have hood clearance?

How much drop can the base have if any?

if you drop you get it under the hood but the air is sucked up and then voilently down. This is not a recipe for performance. The open top is KN X-Stream top filter as it can suck air straight down. from this I wouldn't drop a bit if you don't have to. if the intake and carb are the only power adders then the 14x2 1/2 with that top is more than plenty I'd say

I wasn't sure. I thought the drop base might be bad idea. I just wanted to see what others opinions are.

KN suggested using a drop base if it would work. Does it really mess up airflow?

It will also have Edelbrock aluminum heads and a fairly aggressive cam. I forget the specs at the moment.

KN doesn't have a 14 x 2.25 element. They have a 14 x 2.31 element. I assume that I can run that one since it isn't much taller. I figured that with the Xstream top it should allow enough air to get in. Can I go with a 2.5 inch tall element. I thought that it might be to close to the hood.

This is what I have on my car. The base is actually the Hi-po Blue base with a K&N 14" x 2 3/4"? (not sure exactly) with X-Stream top. But I have a GT350 fiberglass hood. I pretty sure you will have to go with a drop base. Then you'll be good to go. Here's what mine looks like:
