Default Front Main Oil Seal Removal

Hey guys, I have a 200ci that I am rebuilding and I am having quite the time trying to remove the front main seal from the timing cover. The cover is out of the car now, but I still cant get the seal out. Ive been trying to pry it with a screwdriver but it hasnt helped; I guess they press those in. Any tips?

Well I cant exactly hammer it because the way that I would need hammer is protected by the timing cover.

totally kidding

did you try drilling it

from another site

1) Put a large screwdriver under each side and lever the pully off with even pressure.

2) You'll need to make yourself a tool.
Choose two of the threaded holes on the pully (one on each side) and find bolts to fit in them.
Find a piece of steel about 100mm long and drill two holes in it, large enough to fit the bolts and with the right spacing to match the holes in the pully.
Fit that onto the front of the pully and tighten the bolts evenly. This should work like a gear puller.

Once the pulley is removed you'll see a groove in the crank and one in the pulley with a metal 'key' that fits in the grooves and stops the pulley from spinning. That's the woodruff key. Use a little locktite on it when putting it back together as any movement can be bad.

Turn it over, find a socket the size of the seal (just smaller than the lip on the front), place it over the seal, and bang it out with a hammer.
